Shillong, Apr 10: A woman from a remote village has sought the intervention of the in West Jaiñtia Hills district administration as she and her family was allegedly ostracized by the Dorbar Shnong.

The dorbar shnong of Sohmynting village, about 20 kilometers from Jowai, the district headquarter, had allegedly ostracised Suk Pyrtuh and her family because they refused to donate their ancestral land to the village.

The village wanted to handover the land to the Public Health Engineering (PHE) for implementation of a water supply scheme.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Suk’s daughter, Emsi Pyrtuh said that they had recently lodged a complaint with the deputy commissioner and superintendent of police for necessary intervention into the action taken by the Dorbar Shnong.

She alleged that the Dorbar Shnong has deprived her family’s right to access to ration and other benefits.

“Even neighbours were warned from visiting our home and also taxi drivers from ferrying members of our family,” Emsi said.

She further alleged that the village headman since 2001 had been trying to forcefully take the land owned by her mother to hand over to the PHE department for implementing a water supply scheme.

“As per land documents registered with the JHADC, it was clearly stated that the land belongs to my mother,” she said

Meanwhile, the Khasi Jaintia National Union (KJNU) condemned the Dorbar Shnong and demanded the district authority to take necessary action.
