Woman killed, four injured in tragic accident in West Khasi Hills

Shillong, Oct 20: An elderly woman was killed and four others injured in an accident at Markasa in West Khasi Hills on Friday morning at around 6.45 am.
The woman, Rose Lyngdoh (56) from Laitkseh village in West Khasi Hills died on the spot after an Alto K10 (ML06 7353) they were travelling in was hit by a truck (AS01 DD 7036) that was coming from Shillong.
The impact of the accident was such that the head was disjoint.
Lyngdoh along with other family members were on their way to Guwahati to visit her two daughters who are studying and working in Guwahati, Assam.


The injured include Phramshon Marngar (60), husband of Lyngdoh, Stadbording Myrthong (34) the driver of Alto, Lamphrang Lyngdoh (9), grandson of Lyngdoh, and her daughter.
Standbording Myrthong said that the accident occurred in a curve of the highway after the driver of the speeding truck from the opposite direction, lost control and hit the Alto from the driver’s side.
The injured were rushed to Markasa PHC for treatment but later referred to Mairang Civil Hospital and KJP Robert Hospital Shillong for better treatment.
The body of Lyngdoh was taken to Nongstoiñ Civil Hospital for postmortem and handed over the body to the relatives after the postmortem.
Police have registered a case and the driver of the truck was arrested. Investigation is on.
