Woman kills self in home quarantine in Manipur

Imphal, June 28- A 24-year-old COVID-19 girl, was found hanging inside her room on the last day of home quarantine on Sunday here in Manipur.

Naoroibam Sarju, a native of Pebiya Pandit Leikai, Imphal East which falls under the jurisdiction of Irilbung police station was found hanging at about 6 am, family sources said.

Media reports quoting locals said the cause of death might be due to “mental stress”.

Imphal East District Police Chief, Jogeshchandra Haobijam, said the girl had tested positive for COVID-19 on May 31 and again retested on June 1.

She recovered and was discharged from JNIMS hospital on June 14. But doctors advised her to undergo home quarantine as a precautionary measure.

Naoroibam was pursuing post-graduation in Chandigarh and trying to appear for civil service examination.

A post-mortem will be carried out at JNIMS on Monday and investigation is on to ascertain the reason behind the tragic incident .
