Amlarem Oct 1:  The District Legal Services Authority West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai observed the World Senior Citizen’s Day in Amlarem on Tuesday. Sectretary District Legal Services Jowai D. Sohtun,  highlighted the importance of the program and urged everyone to have respect towards senior citizens and the elderly.

Legal Aid Counsel, F.S. Suiam informed the gathering of the different schemes under NALSA for the welfare of senior citizens and also apprised the people about the various legal provisions for safeguarding senior citizens against ill treatment and abuse.  During her speech Addl. Deputy Commissioner i/c Amlarem Sub-Division, J. Kharpuri stated that ill-treatment and abuse towards senior citizens is punishable by law and called
