Shillong, Aug 19: Around 1000 people from Mawkynrew constituency have joined the Congress at Congress Bhavan on Saturday.

Congress leaders claimed that those who joined the party were supporters of the UDP, HSPDP and other parties.

Commenting on their joining, MPCC president, D.D. Lapang said that they realized that Congress is the only party that can save Megahalya.

“Congress has got footprints and it cannot be diluted by anything. It is under the banner of the Congress we got our state of our own, and under the Congress, we got lots of development here. We got NEHU, NEIGRIHMS – these are the things which people will not forget at a time when elections are coming. People have realized that they have to follow mainstream, that is why they are here and joined our party,” Lapang added.
