2-Day North East Regional Brainstorming Workshop on Bio-Resources Development and Sustainable Utilization

Shillong, Dec.4: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, I/c Science & Technology, Prof. R. C. Laloo on Monday inaugurated a 2 day North East Regional Brainstorming Workshop on Bio-Resources Development and Sustainable Utilization at NEC Auditorium, Nongrim Hills, Shillong.

The workshop under the theme: “Biotechnology for Sustainable Development of Ecosystems and Bio-resources” is being co-organised by the Bio-Resources Development Centre (BDRC), Government of Meghalaya and the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India in collaboration with North Eastern Council, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India, North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Project (NERCoRMP), Institute of Natural Resources Management (MBDA), Department of Forest & Environment, Government of Meghalaya, North Eastern Hill University, Shillong, Central Agriculture University, Umiam, ICAR for NEH Region, Umiam, Department of Agriculture, Government of Meghalaya and State Council of Science Technology & Environment (SCSTE).
In his inaugural address as Chief Guest, Prof. R. C. Laloo highlighted on the need to protect and preserve the rich bio-diversity of the State and to make it more sustainable for the future generations. We have to identify the reduction in bio-diversity and bio-resources and chalk out plans to protect and preserve it and to judiciously harness the biological resources for a sustainable development, he added. He also hoped that the workshop will serve as a platform for various stakeholders for developing frameworks for sustainable development of ecosystem and bio-resources of the North East India in general and Meghalaya in particular through biotechnological approaches.
