2018 polls: BJP to give priority to women in ticket distribution

Shillong, May 22: BJP will give prominence to women while distributing tickets for next Assembly elections in Meghalaya scheduled to take place in the first part of 2018.This was stated by BJP’s Mahila Morcha president Vijaya Rahatkar.
While talking to reporters in Shillong on Monday, Rahatkar said that the state BJP women’s wing will play a big role in the upcoming Assembly elections. She said the women’s wing would launch a door-to-door campaign to enlighten the women folk on various schemes launched for the benefit of fairer sex. In many states including Maharashtra, Haryana, women have also been played a crucial role in the party’s victory in polls. Meghalaya is a materinial state and efforts will be made to bring women in politics, she said adding that this campaign will continue till the month of September.
On the rising graph of crime against women and minor girls in Meghalaya, she said that the Mukul Sangma-led MUA-II government has failed to bring the deteriorating law and order situation under control. The ruling Congress government has not been serious about issues pertaining to women, she said.
She also informed the reporters that the BJP Women’s Front will be set up at booth level in Meghalaya which will emphasis on expanding the organization.
The party this year is celebrating the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. She also referred to some of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream schemes including Ujjwala.
Speaking on the occasion, the National General Secretary of the Morcha Pooja Kapil Mishra said that the strength of the social media must be understood by each of its members so as to bring the message to the people in a big way.
Meghalaya Pradesh unit president Pelcy Snaitang and State BJP President Shibun Lyngdoh were present on the occasion.
Earlier, BJP Mahila Morcha chief Vijaya Rahatkar and national secretary of BJP’s Mahila Morcha Pooja Kapil Mishra today met local leaders and booth-level party workers “to motivate and strengthen” the Meghalaya unit for the 2018 election .
