SHILLONG, MAY 14: Meghalaya police intercepted a vehicle carrying 30,000 explosive detonators in the early hours of May 13 at Umkiang village in East Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Rasgania said on Thursday.
According to the SP, a naka party of Umkiang Police Patrol Post stopped a suspicious white Hyundai Eon bearing registration number AS-10-A-5916 headed towards Silchar at around 2:30 am at 2 Kilo, Umkiang village.
“On 13th May 2026, at approximately 02:30 AM, the naka party of Umkiang PPP intercepted a suspicious white Hyundai Eon B/R No. AS-10-A-5916 going towards Silchar at 2 Kilo, Umkiang village,” Rasgania said.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of the detonators, which were being transported illegally.
“A thorough search of the vehicle led to the detection and recovery of 30,000 numbers of explosive detonators. The explosive detonators were concealed inside two carton boxes and one gunny bag and were being transported illegally. The two occupants have been arrested,” he stated.
Police identified the arrested persons as: Kamrul Ali Laskar, son of Shri Rizazul Ali Laskar, resident of Jamalpur, Cachar, Assam. Shri Ibrahim Uddin Laskar, son of Islam Uddin Laskar, resident of Loknathpur, Cachar, Assam.
A case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station and investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the explosives.
“A criminal case has been registered vide Lumshnong PS Case No. 25(05)2026 U/S 61(2) of the BNS R/W Sec. 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, and investigation has been initiated to trace the forward and backward linkages of the explosives,” Rasgania said.
