Shillong, Nov 20: Deputy Chief Minister and NPP leader, Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said that former Chief Minister, D.D. Lapang will play the role as mentor and guide in the National People’s Party (NPP), and by his joining, it will be a boost to the party.
Lapang has decided to join the NPP soon.
Lapang was appointed as the Chief Adviser to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government led by the NPP, after he resigned from the Congress on September 13.
“Officially we have not received anything, but I saw in newspapers that Lapang decided to join the NPP. On Monday I met him as the chief adviser to the government,†Tynsong said.
According to Tynsong, Lapang’s role in NPP will be “our mentor he will guide us well.â€
Tynsong also said that with Lapang joining the NPP, it will naturally be a boost to the party.
“At the stature of Lapang, the senior most leader in the state, and still active in politics, it will be a big boost to the party,†he said.
Lapang left the Congress accusing AICC president, Rahul Gandhi of phasing out senior and elderly people in the party.
