Shillong, Jan 11: A bus ferrying personnel of the Odisha Fire Services was pelted with stones by miscreants in East Jaintia Hills district during the road blockade called by Confederation of Hynñiewtrep Social Organisation on Thursday night.
The Confederation called the agitation to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Police said on Friday that was pelted with stones at Lumshnong area on Thursday night.
No one was injured in the attack but the window of the bus was partially damaged.
The Odisha fire services personnel are being deployed to assist other agencies involved in the rescue operation to evacuate miners who are trapped inside a coal mine at Khloo Ryngksan in East Jaintia Hills since December 13.
SP of East Jaiñtia Hills district, S. Nongtnger said prompt action was taken by the district police, and the personnel were escorted to their guest house.
Chief Fire Officer of the Odisha Fire Services, Sukanta Sethi also denied that the personnel were assaulted in the district by miscreants.
The personnel resumed their rescue operations by pumping waters from the coal mines.
The rescuers continued dewatering the coal mines in the area in their mission to evacuate the trapped miners.
The Coal India Limited, Kirloskar Brothers Limited, Odisha Fire Service have been draining out water for over two weeks.
The Indian Navy survey and sanitised another old shaft below the main shaft where the miners have been trapped.
The National Response Disaster Force is also coordinating with all the agencies in their work of operation.
