Shillong Jan 15: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday informed that Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma will lead a delegation of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government on January 17 to meet Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Home Minister, Rajnath Singh to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 and to pursue with the Centre matters related to exemption of Central mining laws from the state of Meghalaya.

Tynsong said that MLAs and Ministers of the MDA government will be part of the delegation.

“The government has already lodged its opposition against the Bill through a Cabinet resolution last year and the resolution of the Cabinet was officially sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Citizenship Amendment Bill too,” Tynsong said.

Stating that the National People’s Party has maintained its firm stand to oppose the Bill, Tynsong alleged that the opposition Congress is divided over the issue, as some of the Congress representatives in Assam (Barak Valley) are supporting the Citizenship Amendment Bill.

“The NPP is united in opposing the Bill unlike the Congress. Therefore, I request the Congress to be united on this issue,” Tynsong said.

The Bill has been passed in Lok Sabha but it is still pending now in Rajya Sabha.
