Shillong Mar 14: There are 5,894 vacancies to be filled up in 48 departments of the state government.

This was informed by Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma in Assembly during question hour on Thursday while replying to a question raised by Congress MLA from Umroi constituency, George B. Lyngdoh.

The Umroi MLA sought to know from the government the total number of vacancies that are available upto February 2019 in various State government departments, state sponsored societies and state owned agencies, department-wise.

When Lyngdoh pointed out that 1,894 vacancies are yet to be filled up by the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) and whether a special review has been done so that the vacancies do not languish and speed up the recruitment process, the Chief Minister said that apart from the MPSC, there are vacancies that should be filled up by the District Selection Committees as well.

“This takes time because there are large number of vacancies and procedures have to be followed. The MPSC has been continuously working on this, and from time to time, the government has sent letters to the MPSC asking them to take necessary action. The MPSC has been conducting exams for filling up of various posts,” the Chief Minister said.
