Shillong, August 5: Laitkor produced a spirited second-half comeback to defeat Mylliem 3-1 in the seventh match of the Shillong Premier League (SPL) 2026 at the SSA Stadium on Wednesday, bouncing back from their heavy opening-round defeat to register their first win of the season.
Trailing 1-0 at the break, Laitkor responded with goals from substitute Samborwell Mynsong (47′), Hamingbert Nongbet (56′), and Risuk Malngiang (69′) to overturn Mylliem’s first-half lead, which came through Caldolan Kharmawphlang (39′).
Both teams entered the match seeking their first points after opening-round defeats. Mylliem had narrowly lost 1-0 to Nongkseh, while Laitkor suffered a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Mawlai.
First-Half Lead for Mylliem
Both sides made three changes to their starting line-ups.
Mylliem were forced into one change after Shaibor Nongrum’s red card in the previous match, while Kevizakie Ciesotsu and Fedrick Wahlang also made way for Donboklang Nongsteng, Donboklang Majaw and Alem Khongwir.
Laitkor introduced Balajiedlang Lyngwa, Shelbilkstar Kharshilot and Iaryngkatlang Kharkrang in place of Samuel Suting, Wadskhem Marbaniang and Kitdor Kharphuli.
The opening half was a cautious affair, with both teams reluctant to take unnecessary risks. As the game progressed, Mylliem began creating better opportunities, with Alem Khongwir threatening twice before halftime.
Laitkor had the best chance to open the scoring when Hamingbert Nongbet was brought down inside the penalty area. Risuk Malngiang stepped up to take the first penalty of the SPL 2026 season, but fired his effort wide. Hamingbert was then denied moments later in a one-on-one by Mylliem goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh.
Mylliem capitalised on the missed opportunity in the 39th minute. Remark Kharmalki raced past the Laitkor defence before delivering a precise cross to Caldolan Kharmawphlang, who calmly slotted the ball into the net to give his side a 1-0 halftime lead.
Laitkor Turn the Match Around
Laitkor made an immediate impact after the restart by introducing Samborwell Mynsong at halftime. The substitute justified the decision within two minutes, heading home from a chipped delivery to level the score at 1-1.
The momentum shifted firmly in Laitkor’s favour, and Hamingbert Nongbet capped an impressive individual display by driving down the left flank before cutting inside and firing a low shot beyond the reach of Rihoklang to give his side a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute.
Risuk Malngiang completed the comeback in the 69th minute. Chasing a through ball, he pressured the Mylliem goalkeeper into a rushed clearance. Although Rihoklang managed to make first contact, the ball ricocheted off Risuk and rolled over the goal line for Laitkor’s third goal.
Laitkor then managed the closing stages intelligently, retaining possession and denying Mylliem any route back into the contest before securing a well-deserved 3-1 victory.
The Shillong Sports Association will announce the date of the next SPL fixture in due course, with scheduling adjustments being considered as Shillong Lajong, Nongkseh and Langsning are currently participating in the Durand Cup 2026.
