Jowai, Oct 15: Six persons were detained by police in connection with the alleged murder of a mentally challenged person.

West Jaiñtia Hills superintendent of police Lakador Syiem told reporters on Tuesday that information was received that on the evening of October 13, one mentally challenged person by the name Riwano Passah (44) of ïawmusiang Wahnangbah, Jowai was suspected to be assaulted and beaten to death by some of his relatives.

An enquiry was conducted and suspected items were accordingly seized.

During further enquiry, it was learnt that Riwano was buried the next day at around 4:00 to 5:00 PM without any knowledge or intimation to the police.

The SP said as the case was suspected to be a case of murder, and six relatives of the deceased were detained for questioning.

“A suo moto FIR has been filed and a case will be registered accordingly,” Syiem said while informing that investigation of the case is in progress.
