Shillong Feb 5: BJP MLA from South Shillong constituency, Sanbor Shullai along with Shillong Cantonment Area Development Committee general secretary, Bipen Pradhan submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma and sought the state government intervention for utilizing the Garrison Ground known as ‘Madan Kirkit’ at Laban for public purposes besides.

The ground at present is in the possession of the defence.

Shullai also urged the Chief Minister to implement the Municipal building bye laws to Shillong Cantonment area.

The BJP MLA requested the Chief Minister to also lead a delegation to meet Union Defence Minister as the defence authorities did not allow the civilian to use the ground for any purpose.

Shullai recalled that earlier, the request for transfer of Garrison Ground was made but nothing concrete has ever materialized.

He requested the State Government to move the Central authorities to sign an MOU with the defence authority for utilizing the ground by both civilian and defence personnel, adding that the defence authority has no reason to hold the ground as it is centrally located and underutilized.

“This would be in the best interest of both the civilians and defence authorities,” Shullai added.

Recently, Shullai had also met Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and placed this same demand before him.
