Shillong, Mar 1o: The Dorbar Shnong Syntung on Tuesday condemned the mob lynching that led to the death of one youth and seriously injured two of them in the incident at Lad Mawlang on Sunday evening.
Speaking to reporters, headman of Syntung, Robert Pale said that the whole Dorbar Shnong conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and extended best wishes to the injured youths for speedy recovery.
The incident occurred at Lad Mawlang and Pashang after the nine youths spent time at the tourist spot at Syntung village.
“The nine youths had come to Syntung and spent time the whole day and left the tourist spot in the evening at around 5 pm. The unfortunate incident happened not at Syntung but few kilometers after they left Syntung,†he said.
Pale said that the Dorbar Shnong Syntung after receiving the information about the incident, the office bearers rushed to Lad Mawlang and tried to protect the youths, but could not control the mob as they were in large numbers.
According to the office bearers of the Syntung Dorbar Shnong, the youths had mistakenly took the road to Mawsna village after leaving Syntung, instead of taking the road to Shillong. The problem started when they were stopped on the way by some people and the mob lynching took place between Pashang and Lad Mawlang.
Pale also said that he could not identify the mob involved in the lynching of the youths on the night.
He said that the Dorbar Shnong would extend cooperation with the law enforcing people in connection with the incident and wanted that peace prevails in the area.
“We welcome all visitors to visit our tourist spot at Syntung and there was no problem all these years,†he said.
Syntung is a village known for its beautiful tourist spots.
The nine youths all from Madanrting had gone to Syntung on Sunday and celebrated the birth anniversary of one of their friends.
One of the youths , Macmillan Kharshandi, died in the mob attacks. The youths were suspected to be menshohnoh.
