Over 2,100 migrant labourers put in 25 relief camps

Shillong, Apr 9: Over 2,100 migrant workers are being provided with food and shelter in more than 25 relief camps set up across the state.

The migrant labourers have stranded in the state in view of the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown.

“The state government has provided food and shelter to more than 2100 migrant workers,” deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Thursday.

He said a total of 25 relief camps have been set up in the different districts of the state and each camp is also equipped with para medical team to look after the health being of the workers.

Of these, 7 relief camps are in East Khasi Hills District, 8 in West Garo Hills, 3 in East Jaiñtia Hills, 2 each in Ri Bhoi and North Garo Hills and 1 each in West Jaiñtia Hills, South West Khasi Hills and East Garo Hills districts.
