Re-opening of schools will be decided after lockdown: Rymbui

Shillong , May 28: Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui said that the government would take a call on re-opening of educational institutes only after lifting of the ongoing national lockdown to combat against the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We will take a call as and when the Government of India decides to lift the national lockdown,” Rymbui told reporters after a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

The minister further informed that the state government has taken steps to ensure that the academic career as well as the health, and safety of students is not compromised.

The lockdown that led to the shutdown of schools and other educational institutes in the State caused massive disruption in the education system.

In the recently held Assembly’s budget session, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had informed that the government is in the process of coming up with the guidelines/protocols for re-opening of educational institutes post lockdown period for the well-being of students and teachers.
