Shillong, June 18: The recently concluded Shillong Book Fair, organized by Padam Book Company, turned out to be a resounding success, attracting bibliophiles, students, and curious visitors throughout its 18-day run from May 1 to May 18, 2025, at All Saints Hall. One of the fair’s key attractions was its free career counseling sessions for youth. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Mahavir Jain. People are loving the book fair. We believe it will inspire young people to pursue civil services and contribute meaningfully to the nation.”

The fair’s core mission was to encourage the younger generation to embrace books and storytelling, offering a healthy alternative to excessive gadget use. With around 100 stalls, the event featured books in various Indian languages and genres, ranging from fiction and non-fiction to educational and children’s literature.

Major publishers included: Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Pan Macmillan, National Book Trust India, Woodpecker, Cambridge Book Depot, and many more.

The Children’s Corner was another highlight, featuring engaging activities like:

Cursive writing sessions, Musical storytelling, Puppet-making workshops, Self-defense classes, Caricature drawing, Vedic mathematics…and more.

Organizers have already announced the next edition of the Shillong Book Fair, which will be held from February 2 to February 19, 2026, promising an even grander celebration of literature and culture.
