HBDRF Presses State Government for Action on Block-I and Block-II Border Dispute

Shillong, November 13: The Hynñiewtrep Border Disputed Redressal Forum (HBDRF) has renewed its call for the Meghalaya Government to take prompt and decisive action on the long-standing inter-state border dispute concerning Block-I and Block-II.

In a letter addressed to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, the Forum, led by its Chairman Bah Chandame Sugoh, expressed disappointment over the State Government’s continued inaction despite several rounds of communication and meetings held with senior officials, including the Chief Minister himself.

The Forum reminded the government of its earlier correspondences — a letter dated February 1, 2024, highlighting concerns in Block-I, and a memorandum submitted on June 25, 2025, to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Ministers Sniawbhalang Dhar and Prestone Tynsong, and the Chief Secretary. The June memorandum raised objections to the Socheng Amreng Border Development Committee’s demand for land registration and the proposed establishment of an Entry Tax Gate at Khanduli Village on May 25, 2025.

The HBDRF reiterated that the border issue remains a matter of grave concern for the Hynñiewtrep community, as it directly affects their land rights and territorial integrity. The Forum urged the State Government to adopt a clear, transparent, and time-bound approach to address the pending issues, stressing that further delay would only heighten public dissatisfaction and uncertainty in the affected areas.
