Nongpoh | 14 November 2025: During the felicitation programme organised by the RBYF to honour meritorious students from various academic streams, the President of RBYF, Bah Bipul Thangkhiew, expressed deep concern over the poor electricity supply in the region. He emphasized that the unreliable power situation has become one of the major challenges faced by students in the district, especially during crucial study hours when they need uninterrupted electricity.
He further stated that this issue continues to trouble Ri Bhoi due to the negligence and biased approach of the authorities in managing the distribution system. Bah Thangkhiew pointed out the irony that although a significant portion of the state’s electricity is generated in Ri Bhoi, the district itself receives only minimal supply—limited to just 33 KV at the local substation.
Highlighting the disparity, he noted that Ri Bhoi District pays electricity usage charges amounting to more than ₹24 crore per month to the government, yet continues to suffer from inadequate power distribution. He added that these concerns—ranging from power generation to billing—have consistently affected the district, and despite repeated reminders, the issue remains unresolved.
Bah Thangkhiew also remarked that instead of preparing backup generators to run during power cuts, many factories in the area are now forced to depend on electricity even during times when their generators run out of fuel—an ironic reversal of the normal situation.
