Nongpoh, 22 November 2025: Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar on Saturday actively participated in the programme attended by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at Umsning, a key centre for many villages under the Mawhati and Umsning constituencies. Addressing the gathering of local leaders and residents, Marngar highlighted several urgent infrastructural needs of the area.
He stressed the necessity of constructing a pedestrian bridge across the Umsning Bypass, noting that students face daily challenges while crossing the busy road. He said that despite numerous initiatives taken by the Umsning Town Dorbar, this particular demand remains a critical requirement for the safety of schoolchildren.
During his address, the Mawhati legislator extended his gratitude to the Chief Minister for granting and operationalising the Mawhati C&RD Block, which has now begun functioning in the region. He also expressed appreciation for the progress made on the Sonidan road, a stretch of over 40 km that residents have long awaited for many years.
Marngar further noted that preparations for inaugurating the Convention Centre at Nongpoh have greatly benefited the entire district. With Ri-Bhoi having capable and visionary leaders, he said the time may be right for the state government to consider establishing a Mini Secretariat in Ri-Bhoi District.
He cited the recent inauguration of the Mini Secretariat at Pynursla on 28 October 2025, which has significantly improved administrative accessibility despite Pynursla being only a Civil Sub-Division. Highlighting that Ri-Bhoi has completed more than 30 years as a full-fledged district, Marngar said it is only fitting that the government considers a similar administrative upgrade for Ri-Bhoi.
He concluded by expressing optimism that with committed representatives and the government’s willingness, longstanding aspirations—such as the Mini Secretariat—could soon become a reality for the district.
