UMDEN, RI BHOI — November 27, 2025: Communities progress when guided by dedicated leadership and collective responsibility. Reflecting this spirit, the Nongtluh Mathan Marmain Development Forum (NMMDF), under the leadership of its Chairman Bah Arnold Syngkli, organized a Road Safety and Traffic Law Awareness Programme to promote responsible driving and enhance public safety in the Umden region.
The programme, held on November 27 at Madan Umden, aimed to educate drivers and local residents on the importance of understanding and adhering to traffic laws, as well as safety measures inside vehicles—whether travelling in four-wheelers or two-wheelers. The organizers emphasized that carelessness behind the wheel and disregard for traffic rules often lead to tragic and avoidable accidents.

The event witnessed the participation of local MLA Bah Mayral Born Syiem, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Also present were Ri Bhoi District Senior Superintendent of Police VS Rathore, IPS, DSP Bah O. Massar, traditional leaders of the surrounding villages, members of the NMMDF, commercial vehicle driver groups, and other public representatives.
Speakers at the programme appreciated the initiative of the NMMDF, stating that such awareness events are crucial, especially now that the Nongpoh–Umden road is nearing completion, which is expected to significantly increase vehicular movement in the area. They stressed the need for drivers to be well-informed and disciplined to prevent accidents and ensure safe travel for all.
“Respect for road safety rules protects lives and strengthens peace and wellbeing in society,” the speakers remarked.
The NMMDF expressed hope that the programme will encourage long-term behavioural change in road usage and foster stronger community cooperation towards safety and development.
