SHILLONG, DEC 11: The All Meghalaya Kickboxing Association (AMKA) has brought immense pride to the state after clinching an impressive 124 medals — spanning gold, silver, and bronze — at the National Kickboxing Championship held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
A contingent of about 140 athletes, including men, women, and young competitors, represented Meghalaya at the national event. Their stellar performance secured the state the prestigious position of 1st Runners-Up in the overall championship.
In a further boost to the state’s profile, two Meghalaya fighters also competed in the Professional Fight category under the ISKA Kunkhmer Professional Fight Organization, conducted by the Indian Association of Kickboxing Organization.
The triumphant team returned on December 10 and was warmly welcomed at Guwahati by Putul Sonowal, General Secretary of the North East Kickboxing Association. Upon reaching Shillong, the athletes were greeted by AMKA leaders and proud parents who accompanied them.
AMKA President, Bah Samuelk Hashah, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the athletes for their discipline, commitment, and excellent performance, saying their efforts had borne “a sweet and meaningful fruit” for the state.
He also revealed that the entire contingent travelled without any financial support from the government. All expenses were borne by the Association and the parents, whose contributions ensured the young athletes could participate at the national level.
Bah Samuel expressed optimism that the state government would extend support in the future, particularly through the sports scholarship scheme announced recently, to uplift deserving athletes who continue to bring honour to Meghalaya.
