SHILLONG, DEC 11: Bah Nicholas Kharkamni, fondly known across Meghalaya as “Nick RJ” or by his signature call “Hei Ka Pla Iew”, was honoured with the title of “Go Eco Green Ambassador” at the Winter Tales Festival held at Nan Polok, Ward’s Lake.
The recognition was conferred by Tourism Minister Timothy D. Shira, in the presence of Tourism Director Kong B. Pakynteiñ (MCS). Along with the title, Bah Nicholas received a certificate of recognition and a cash award of ₹20,000.
A well-known radio personality and one of Meghalaya’s strongest voices for cleanliness and sustainable living, Bah Nicholas has long championed environmental awareness through radio, media, and social platforms. He has consistently advocated for responsible waste management, reduced littering, environmental protection, and active citizenship to keep public spaces clean.
In his acceptance speech, he thanked the Government and the organisers of Winter Tales for acknowledging his efforts. He used the platform to highlight the issue of a large pile of unattended garbage near Ward’s Lake, urging authorities to address it promptly as it poses threats to public health and the environment.
Concluding his address, Bah Nicholas called on citizens to work together and cultivate a daily habit of cleanliness, emphasising that community participation is key to preserving Meghalaya’s natural beauty.
