Shillong, November 11: The Meghalaya Asha Worker Union has warned of an indefinite cease-work agitation if the government fails to release their pending wages by December 19, 2025. The decision was taken during a special meeting held on Tuesday, amid growing frustration over the prolonged delay in payments.
Union President Mira June Marsing told reporters that Asha workers across the state have not received their wages for more than seven months. She said the union had submitted a written appeal to the Mission Director back in May 2025, urging immediate action to release dues from the Central Government. However, despite multiple reminders and follow-ups, no progress has been made.
Marsing recalled that the government had earlier assured workers that their pending wages would be cleared by November 19, 2025. “But with no signs of payment yet, the workers are left with no option but to consider stronger measures,” she said.
She stressed that the prolonged delay has pushed thousands of Asha workers into severe financial distress. “Even as we continue serving communities across Meghalaya, we are deprived of our rightful wages and incentives. If the dues are not released by December 19, we will be compelled to cease work indefinitely,” she warned.
The union reiterated its appeal to the authorities to address the issue urgently and prevent a statewide disruption of essential grassroots health services.
