Shillong, December 18: The Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya, on Wednesday observed the 85th death anniversary of renowned Khasi litterateur Myllung U Soso Tham at the U Soso Tham Auditorium here.
On the occasion, the Governor of Meghalaya, C. H. Vijayshankar, along with government officials, laid a wreath at the bust of U Soso Tham. The ceremony was attended by the Minister in charge of Arts and Culture, Sanbor Shullai, and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Vijayshankar recalled the immense contributions of U Soso Tham to Khasi literature and society. Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai, in his address, announced that a bronze statue of Myllung U Soso Tham would be installed at the State Central Library. He highlighted the literary giant’s enduring contributions, including his acclaimed work Ka Duitara Ksiar, and said few individuals had demonstrated such deep love and dedication toward the Khasi community as the pioneer of Khasi literature.
During the programme, the Governor felicitated members of U Soso Tham’s family and participants of various competitions organised in connection with the observance.
