SHILLONG, Jan 21: A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders led by Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai and State BJP President Rikman G. Momin called on Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, seeking an early resolution to the long-pending issue of relocation of the Dalit Sikh community from Them Iew Mawlong to the Cantonment area.

Sanbor Shullai, who represents the Shillong Cantonment Board area, apprised the Union Defence Minister of the sensitivity and significance of the matter and urged the Defence Ministry to arrive at an early and amicable solution in the larger interest of the state.

During the meeting, the delegation also requested speedy implementation of the building bye-laws recently passed by the Cantonment Board and sought expeditious renewal of the policy governing the Cantonment area. Additionally, the leaders urged early approval for defence land acquisition required for the smooth completion of the Shillong flyover project.

Rajnath Singh gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured them that all issues and grievances raised would be examined. He further assured that the matters would be taken up with the concerned authorities.

Later, Sanbor Shullai stated that the delegation would meet the Union Defence Minister again to follow up on the issues and ensure their speedy implementation.
