Shillong, Feb 26: Shillong Lajong FC adviser Bah Seibor Sana and Head Coach Viru Thapa have expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, asserting that sustained hard work and unity will be key as the club prepares for crucial upcoming fixtures this season.
Addressing the media, Sana acknowledged that while the club may not match the financial muscle of some larger outfits, it remains firmly rooted in its sporting philosophy and commitment to promoting local talent.
“Unity and public support are essential. We may not be the richest club, but we have strong determination and a clear vision to develop football in the state,” Sana said.
He stressed that the competition this season has been intense, demanding greater coordination between management and players. According to him, the club’s long-term focus continues to be on nurturing homegrown footballers and strengthening the grassroots structure of the sport in Meghalaya.
“We want to deliver quality football and inspire the youth of the state,” he added.
Head Coach Viru Thapa admitted that the team faced challenges in earlier matches but expressed satisfaction with the players’ attitude and commitment on the training ground.
“The boys have shown resilience and discipline. We are working consistently to sharpen our attacking play and improve defensive coordination,” Thapa said.
He noted that the remainder of the season is expected to be highly competitive, but maintained that the squad is prepared to fight for positive results in every outing. Team cohesion and mutual trust, he emphasized, remain central to achieving their objectives.
The club management also outlined plans to strengthen the squad through enhanced training systems, tactical refinements, and continued emphasis on youth development programmes.
With growing public backing and collective effort, Shillong Lajong FC is aiming to finish the season strongly and continue building a platform that brings pride to Meghalaya’s football fraternity.
