Shillong, October 26: Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) president R. Kharjana said several members of the organisation had been summoned by police for questioning in connection with the August 19 rally and the violence reported during the event.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, Kharjana said the members had appeared before investigators in compliance with the summons and were cooperating with the investigation.

He clarified that the members summoned for questioning had not been arrested. Their statements were being recorded to establish their presence at the rally and determine whether they had any involvement in the incident, he said.

Kharjana added that more members were expected to appear before investigators in the coming days.

He maintained that merely attending the rally did not establish involvement in the violence and claimed that there was no evidence linking the members he referred to with the incident.

Asked about the number of KSU members who had received notices, Kharjana said he did not yet have the exact figures.
