Shillong, April 4: Nearly two platoons of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) today participated in Operation Clean-Up, a river cleaning campaign at the Umkaliar River spearheaded by Patricia Mukhim, Editor of The Shillong Times, along with other like-minded organizations.
The SDRF team, led by three Inspectors, took part in the campaign wholeheartedly from 8:00 AM to 9:15 AM. Working in coordination with various organizations and volunteers, the personnel contributed significantly to cleaning the heavily polluted river.
The Umkaliar River, a tributary of the Wah Umkhrah River, has been facing severe pollution. The initiative aimed to restore the river’s cleanliness while also raising awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.
