SHILLONG, APR 6: National President of the National People’s Party (NPP) and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday addressed a massive election rally at Bamunigaon under the 28–Boko Chaygaon (ST) constituency in Assam, seeking support for party candidate Ganseng B. Sangma.
The rally witnessed a large turnout, with supporters gathering in significant numbers to back the party’s vision of a united Northeast. The event was attended by several NPP leaders, including MLAs from Meghalaya and MDCs from the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), along with National Vice President I. Hemochandra Singh and Manipur Legislative Party leader M. Rameshwar Singh.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma described the election as a defining moment for regional unity. “This election is the voice of the Northeast, a voice that will resonate from Boko-Chaygaon,” he said, adding that the results would reflect whether people have united under a common vision.
Highlighting the party’s expansion, he said the NPP is poised to open its account in Assam and realise the vision of its founder, P. A. Sangma, of building a strong and unified Northeast. He criticised national parties for what he termed decades of divisive politics and called on voters to support a regional force focused on unity and inclusive growth.
Recalling his father’s legacy, Sangma said P.A. Sangma would travel long distances to address even small gatherings with humility, adding that such grassroots commitment forms the foundation of the party’s growing presence.
“The seed planted by P.A. Sangma in Meghalaya fourteen years ago has now grown into a tree that shelters the entire Northeast. His dream of uniting all communities under one platform is becoming a reality,” he said.
Sangma urged voters to support Ganseng B. Sangma, describing him as a sincere and dedicated leader committed to inclusive development. “If Ganseng becomes MLA, it will mark a new dawn for NPP in Assam,” he added.
Other leaders who addressed the rally included senior Meghalaya MLA and former Speaker and minister A. T. Mondal, along with Hemochandra Singh and Rameshwar Singh. MLAs present at the event included Sanjay Sangma, Marthon Sangma, Pongseng Marak, Rupert Momin, and Jim Sangma.
All speakers reiterated the vision of a strong and united Northeast and called for a decisive mandate in favour of the party.
In his brief address, candidate Ganseng B. Sangma pledged dedicated service to the people, stating, “I speak for one minute but work for twenty.”
