Shillong, Apr 27: Heavy rain across Meghalaya failed to dampen the excitement in the 5th edition of the Meghalaya State League, as top teams like Shillong Lajong FC, Nangkiew Irat SC and Khimusniang SC registered emphatic victories, while several other matches produced surprising results.

Adverse weather conditions posed a challenge for players across venues, with one match in Group F between Lawbah SC and Mishon SSCC in Mairang being postponed due to an unplayable ground.

In Group H, Rangdajied United FC were held to a goalless draw by Mawlarshong SC in Mawkyrwat. Having earlier drawn 1-1 in their first meeting, Mawlarshong have now remained unbeaten in two encounters against the 2023 champions.

Another 0-0 stalemate was witnessed in Williamnagar, where Janepih YSCA were held by Balmanduri FC. The result came as a surprise, as Janepih had won all three of their previous matches in the group.

In Khliehriat (Group D), Thangskai Tiger SC staged a strong comeback to defeat Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC 2-1. After a goalless first half, Thomas Dkhar (53′) put Jalaphet ahead, but goals from Wendi Markson Nongtdu (72′) and Solmon Sympli (87′) turned the match around.

Group C saw Amlarem SC secure a 3-1 victory over Lamin XI SCC, with Iaid Da Kyrmen Jungai (4′) and a brace from Marshial Nongrum (27′, 83′) sealing the win. Densil Kongwang (78′) scored a consolation for Lamin XI.

Former champions Shillong Lajong delivered a dominant 5-0 win over Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC in Group E at Wahiajer. Lalmuansanga (25′) opened the scoring before second-half strikes from Colinsalmon Lyngdoh (56′), Iohborlang L Lyngkhoi (70′), Ricky Kharkongor (89′) and captain Wilbert D Marbaniang (90’+4) completed the rout.

A similar scoreline was recorded at the MFA Ground in Shillong, where Nangkiew Irat SC thrashed Mawlum Tyrsad SCC 5-0 in Group B. Neblejohn Lyngkhoi (7′) gave them an early lead, followed by Banshanlang Nongdhar (63′) and a late hat-trick from substitute Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw (75′, 85′, 90′).

The biggest win of the day came in Group A, where Khimusniang SC hammered Umkaber SCC 9-0 at the SSA Stadium. Primrose Lamat (3′, 45’+2) scored twice to take his tally to nine goals in the tournament, while Meroily Lytan (12′, 89′), Dashngain Sukhlain (30′), Dawanbiangmi Passah (36′) and Civility Khongmalai (69′) also found the net. An own goal in the 16th minute further added to the scoreline.
