SHILLONG, MAY 6: Dr DRL Nonglait on Wednesday formally accepted the National People’s Party’s proposal to field him as its candidate for the 2026 Shillong Lok Sabha by-election.

In a letter to the NPP President, Dr Nonglait said he wanted to “express my sincere gratitude to the leadership and members of the National People’s Party for reposing faith and confidence in me by offering me the opportunity to contest the M.P. By-Election, 2026 on the party ticket.”

“After careful consideration, I am pleased to formally accept the proposal,” the letter stated.

Pledging his commitment to the party, Dr Nonglait wrote, “I shall wholeheartedly abide by the principles, vision, and collective decisions of the party and work diligently for the welfare and development of the people, the state and the country.”

He also sought the party’s backing for the campaign. “I look forward to the guidance, support, and cooperation of the party leadership, party workers, and well-wishers in carrying forward this responsibility with dedication and sincerity,” he said.
