Shillong, May 6: Amlarem SC pulled off a crucial 2-1 victory over reigning champions Mawlai SC in their final Group C match of the 5th Meghalaya State League at Amlarem on Wednesday.
While Mawlai had already secured qualification for the pre-quarterfinals, the match was a must-win for Amlarem to advance to the Round of 16. The home side made a dream start, with Wantiwjune Buam scoring in the very first minute.
Mawlai responded through Batskhemlang Thongnirit in the 15th minute, but Buam struck again in the 76th to seal the decisive win.
The result lifted Amlarem to second place in the group with 10 points, behind Mawlai’s 13, and also brought an end to Mawlai’s impressive 11-match unbeaten run in the competition dating back to their 2024-25 title-winning campaign.
In Group H at Mawkyrwat, 2023 champions Rangdajied United FC suffered a second consecutive defeat, going down 1-0 to Mawten SC.
Lastbornson Marwein netted the only goal in the 12th minute. The result leaves Rangdajied, Mawten and Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun tied on 8 points each, with final standings to be determined based on head-to-head results by the Meghalaya Football Association.
Group A saw Nongkseh SSCC held to a 1-1 draw by Khimusniang SC at the SSA Stadium in Shillong. Shano Tariang gave Nongkseh the lead in the 56th minute before Dawanbiangmi Passah equalised in the 75th with a well-taken strike.
The result ensured Nongkseh finished top of the group, followed by Khimusniang in second place.
In Mairang, Langsning FC delivered a dominant performance, thrashing Mishon SSCC 5-0. Samuel Phawa scored twice, while Kyrmenskhem Mukhim and tournament top scorer Nelson Rymbai also found the net, with Rymbai adding a brace.
Although Langsning had already secured top spot, Mishon’s qualification hopes will now depend on their final group match against Lawbah SC on May 8.
Among other results, Maram FC defeated Attong Matgrik FC 6-1 in Group G at Williamnagar, while Rymbai Shkenshynriah beat Jalaphet Moochut Pyrdung SC 5-2 in Group D at Khliehriat. In Group B, Nangkiew Irat SC registered a commanding 6-2 win over Mulang at the MFA Ground in Shillong, with Wallamsuk Nongkhlaw scoring four goals.
Two more matches are scheduled for Thursday, both kicking off at 3 PM. Lamyrsiang SCC will face Iatyllilang Lumsehkot CSC in Group E at Wahiajer, while A’chik SCO Rongjeng take on Balmanduri FC in Group G at Williamnagar.
