Nongpoh, May 5: The collective efforts of women through Self Help Groups (SHGs) and their integration into larger institutions like Cluster Level Federations (CLFs) are bringing significant socio-economic transformation across Meghalaya.
In Tyso Pdeng under Bhoirymbong C&RD Block in Ri Bhoi district, the Iakyrshan Cluster Farmer Producer Multipurpose Cooperative Society stands as a strong example of this progress.
The society comprises over 300 members drawn from 21 Self Help Groups and six Village Organisations in the region.
During an interaction with the leadership of the society, President Iohilut Lyngdoh and member Trisha Shadap highlighted the journey and achievements of the organisation.
They emphasized that through SHGs and CLFs, women have gained access to financial assistance, livelihood opportunities, and skill-based activities such as farming and allied practices.
The members are actively engaged in income-generating activities such as agriculture and livestock rearing, while also benefiting from credit facilities and various government-supported initiatives.
On the day of the visit, members were seen collectively participating in plantation activities in the fields, reflecting strong unity and mutual support within the federation.
Leaders of the CLF described the initiative as a major boost for women in the Tyrso area, enabling them to support their families financially and invest in the education and future of their children.
They further credited government support and welfare schemes for empowering rural women and strengthening grassroots economic development across Meghalaya.
