Shillong, May 17: The 2nd DUBAKH Scholastic Basketball League 2026 concluded on Sunday at the Pearly Dew School Basketball Court in Jaiaw Laitdom, Shillong, bringing an end to weeks of competitive basketball action featuring young talents from across Meghalaya.

Organised by DUBAKH Sports Pvt Ltd, the tournament saw participation from 16 school and college teams and more than 190 student-athletes, with the initiative aimed at promoting grassroots basketball development while also spreading awareness against drug abuse and addiction among the youth.

The league was conducted in partnership with DREAM Meghalaya under the Social Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya, and supported by U Matter, Vector X and DB Fast Food.

In the Girls Final, St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School produced a dominant performance to defeat Mylliem Presbyterian Higher Secondary School 36-16 and lift the championship trophy. St. Mary’s controlled the contest with disciplined defence and effective ball movement throughout the game.

The Boys Final delivered a thrilling finish as Shillong Commerce College edged past Thomas Jones Synod College 38-37 in one of the closest encounters of the tournament. Shillong Commerce College held their composure in the closing moments to secure the title by a single point.

Champions in both categories were awarded cash prizes of ₹10,000, while the runners-up received ₹5,000 along with trophies and medals.

The closing ceremony was attended by several dignitaries and supporters of youth sports, including Roger Vincent Kharbamon, the General Secretary of the East Khasi Hills District Basketball Association, Inspector Mohit, Veno, R. Surong and Kong Dora.

Speakers at the event highlighted the role of sports in encouraging discipline, mental wellness and positive youth engagement, while also helping raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.

The organisers expressed gratitude to participating institutions, officials, volunteers, coaches and sponsors for contributing to the successful conduct of the tournament. DUBAKH Sports Pvt Ltd reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening basketball culture in Meghalaya through professionally organised grassroots sporting events.
