Shillong, May 17: Meghalaya continued their impressive campaign in the Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s National Football Championship 2026 with a commanding 3-0 victory over Rajasthan on Saturday, sealing a place in the quarterfinals with a flawless record in Group A.
The win marked Meghalaya’s fourth consecutive triumph in the tournament, as they finished atop the group standings with a maximum 12 points and emerged as one of the strongest contenders heading into the knockout stage in Narainpur.
Playing in an early morning fixture that kicked off at 7:30am, Meghalaya wasted little time in asserting their dominance. Mebanlamlynti Masharing opened the scoring in just the third minute, rising to meet a well-delivered corner from Imeral Jana and giving his side the perfect start.
Meghalaya maintained attacking pressure throughout the first half and doubled their lead in the 17th minute through Ryan Gibbs Kharnaior. The move began with a long forward ball that sent Meghalaya’s attackers charging into the Rajasthan half. Ryan displayed composure and skill by drawing defenders out of position with a clever feint before turning sharply and firing a precise left-footed strike beyond the goalkeeper.
The third goal arrived before halftime when Phermanbha Lyngdoh found the net in the 38th minute, effectively putting the contest beyond Rajasthan’s reach and allowing Meghalaya to comfortably manage the remainder of the game.
The latest victory capped an outstanding group stage campaign for Meghalaya, who had earlier defeated Bihar 3-1 on May 9, thrashed Jharkhand 5-0 on May 11 and overwhelmed Andhra Pradesh 8-1 on May 13.
Having scored freely and displayed defensive solidity throughout the tournament, Meghalaya now head into the quarterfinals full of confidence, where they are set to face the winners of Group C.
