SHILLONG, MAY 18: The National People’s Party (NPP) on Sunday continued its campaign for the upcoming Shillong Parliamentary byelection by organising a public meeting at Iew Mawhati in Ri Bhoi district, attended by senior party leaders and supporters.

The meeting was led by the party’s candidate for the byelection, Dr DRL Nonglait, and was attended by several prominent leaders from the district, including Ri Bhoi NPP president Babu Clement Mawlong, Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar, Umsning MLA Celestine Lyngdoh, Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit and other senior party functionaries.

The gathering was part of a series of public meetings being organised by the NPP across areas under the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency ahead of the byelection, necessitated following the demise of former MP Ricky AJ Syngkon.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Nonglait highlighted his experience in the field of education and public service. He said that through his association with several educational institutions and his current responsibilities overseeing multiple colleges under North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), he has gained extensive experience in serving the people.

He stated that the opportunity given by the NPP to contest the Shillong Lok Sabha byelection would allow him to further expand his service to the public. According to him, if elected as MP, he would work towards strengthening the connection between the Central government and the people of the region.

Dr Nonglait was also accompanied at the meeting by his colleague from NEHU, Marbhador M Khymdeit, a professor in the Department of Khasi and a member of the Khasi Authors’ Society.

Other speakers at the programme included Charles Marngar, Celestine Lyngdoh, Rona Khymdeit, Dr Marbhador M Khymdeit and NPP Meghalaya Working President Hamletrson Dohling, who appealed to the public to support the party in the upcoming byelection.
