The annual race is held every year on a Saturday close to June 23, which is observed globally as International Olympic Day to commemorate the establishment of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894. The Shillong edition has grown into one of the state’s most popular road races, attracting hundreds of participants ranging from teenagers to senior citizens.

The event was organised with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the East Khasi Hills district administration, the Police Department and numerous volunteers.

In the men’s race, Hasebinson Marwein produced a strong performance to finish ahead of a highly competitive field. Wanbok L. Mawphlang, the 2024 champion, secured second place, while Junom Phawa claimed third after maintaining a commendable pace throughout the race.

The women’s title was won by Marqueenless Ramsiej, who returned to the top of the podium after previously winning the event in 2024. One of Meghalaya’s leading long-distance runners, Ramsiej had also finished third in the 2022 and 2023 editions. Jidalin Tympuin secured second place, while Maryqueen Pale finished third.

The winners in both categories received a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each. The runners-up were awarded Rs 3,000, while the third-place finishers received Rs 2,000. Consolation prizes were also presented to participants finishing between fourth and eighth positions. In addition, all runners aged above 55 years were honoured with a token of appreciation by the MSOA in recognition of their participation.

The race was flagged off by Indian long-distance running legend Binningstar Lyngkhoi and international medal-winning karateka Damang Syngkon, who recently assumed charge as the East Khasi Hills District Sports Officer.

Also present were MSOA Working President John F. Kharshiing and General Secretary Finely L. Pariat, who encouraged participants to register for the 5th Sohra International Half Marathon 2026, scheduled to be held on September 4. The event will feature half marathon, 10 km and 5 km races, with registration opening on July 1 and participation capped at 11,000 runners.
