Shillong, August 11: Meghalaya BJP State Secretary Wankitbok Pohshna on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, accusing him and the Congress of adopting “double standards” on issues concerning students, examinations, recruitment and alleged paper leaks.

Addressing the media in Shillong, Pohshna alleged that Gandhi was politicising student-related issues while remaining silent over the alleged police action against protesting students in Ranchi, Jharkhand, where the Congress is part of the ruling alliance with the JMM.

He claimed that peaceful protesters in Ranchi were subjected to lathi-charge and water cannons and questioned why Gandhi had not expressed similar concern for them as he had for student protests in Delhi.

Pohshna also accused Gandhi of disrupting Parliament and “running away” from debates despite the government being prepared to respond to questions raised by the Opposition.

“The Home Minister is ready to answer every question. Rahul Gandhi should not run away and should not be afraid of a debate,” Pohshna said.

The BJP leader further accused Gandhi of spreading what he described as a “false narrative” surrounding the Jantar Mantar protest and challenged the Congress leader to raise the issues directly before the government in Parliament.

Pohshna said the BJP would continue to support students and youth who raise their concerns through democratic means. At the same time, he accused the Congress of using student issues for “political convenience” and applying different standards depending on where such protests take place.
