SHILLONG, AUG 11: Over 6.5 lakh electors in Meghalaya will undergo detailed scrutiny during the Special Intensive Revision 2026, the Chief Electoral Officer said on Tuesday.

In a virtual review with DCs, DEOs, SDOs, EROs and AEROs, the CEO said the draft electoral rolls published on August 5 have flagged two major categories for review.

“Across the State, 2,22,786 electors have been identified under the ‘No Mapping’ category, while 4,28,858 electors have been identified with discrepancies in their mapping with the previous SIR 2025 records. Thus, a total of 6,51,644 electors have been identified for scrutiny and appropriate action in accordance with the prescribed procedure,” the CEO stated.

The discrepancies include mismatches in names and parent details from 2005 records, unrealistic age gaps between parents and electors or between siblings, and more than six children linked to one parent.

The CEO directed EROs and AEROs to issue notices promptly, conduct hearings as per schedule, and update monitoring sheets regularly. Electors receiving notices can appear before the ERO/AERO with supporting documents.

So far, 2,449 claims and objections have been received after draft publication — 1,121 for new inclusion, 8 for deletion, 253 for shifting, and 1,067 for corrections.

In a separate meeting with political parties, the CEO urged BLAs to help voters verify details and file claims before September 4. 

The notice and disposal phase will run till October 3, with the final roll set for October 7.

The CEO reiterated that “no entry or name appearing in the Draft Electoral Roll shall be deleted without due process,” and called on citizens, parties, traditional institutions and the district machinery to cooperate to ensure no eligible voter is left out and no ineligible name is added.
