53 projects unveiled for South Shillong constituency

Shillong, Aug 13: Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai marked his 60th birthday on Thursday by laying the foundation stones for 53 development projects worth ₹65.45 crore in his constituency.

The programme, held at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, was attended by residents of South Shillong, community leaders, supporters and officials from various departments of the State Government.

According to the project profile released during the occasion, the 53 sanctioned works carry a total allocation of ₹65,45,17,213 under various State and Central government schemes.

The projects span several sectors, including cultural infrastructure, roads and drainage, urban development, sports facilities, water resources and solid-waste management.

The implementing agencies include the Arts and Culture, Urban Affairs, Sports and Youth Affairs, Water Resources and Public Works departments, besides the Shillong Municipal Board and Shillong Cantonment Board.

Among the major projects are cultural centres at Kynjat Phutbol and Dorbar Madan Laban, sanctioned at ₹2.05 crore and ₹2.03 crore respectively.

Two Special Urban Works Programme packages, each valued at ₹2.50 crore, and an aqueduct drainage system at Mynsain New Colony, estimated at ₹93.03 lakh, are also among the sanctioned works.Addressing the gathering, Shullai thanked Almighty God for guiding him through 60 years of life and expressed gratitude to the people of South Shillong for their continued confidence and support.

He also acknowledged the contribution of government officials and employees involved in securing and implementing the projects.

Shullai said marking his Diamond Jubilee by initiating development projects for the welfare of his constituency made the birthday particularly meaningful.

He reaffirmed his commitment to working with the government and the people to address local needs and accelerate development across South Shillong.
