Mairang, August 13: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shillong, under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in association with the Eastern West Khasi Hills District Administration, organised an Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) on the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan at Mairang Presbyterian Higher Secondary School on Thursday.
A Tiranga rally formed a major part of the programme, bringing together students, government officials, teachers and members of the public to promote patriotism, national unity and social responsibility.
The rally was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner M. Diengdoh in the presence of CBC Assistant Director Gopajit Das, School Principal C. War, police and district administration officials, CBC representatives, teachers and a large number of students.
The rally proceeded from the school to the nearby market, with students carrying the messages of Har Ghar Tiranga, unity in diversity and Nasha Mukt Bharat to the wider community.
Addressing the gathering, ADC M. Diengdoh urged citizens, particularly students, to actively participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign by displaying the National Flag at homes, schools, offices and other prominent locations.
He described the Tricolour as a powerful symbol of India’s unity in diversity and encouraged young people to carry the spirit of patriotism into their daily lives.
Speaking on the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, Diengdoh urged students to make healthy and responsible choices, stressing the importance of self-discipline, positive peer influence and a supportive environment in helping young people achieve their potential.
He encouraged students to become ambassadors of positive change by spreading awareness about the dangers of substance abuse among their families, friends and communities.
Principal C. War appreciated the initiative and highlighted the role of educational institutions in nurturing responsible, confident and socially conscious citizens. He also stressed the importance of strengthening national unity while recognising India’s rich cultural diversity.
SI E. Marbaniang, who served as a resource person, briefed students on substance abuse and its impact on individuals, families and society. He explained the risks associated with different forms of drugs, highlighted the importance of recognising early warning signs and encouraged students to support peers and seek timely assistance when necessary.
The programme also featured a patriotic dance competition, with students presenting energetic performances celebrating India’s unity, diversity and patriotism. Art and quiz competitions were also organised around the themes of national unity, patriotism and a drug-free India.
Winners and participants were felicitated with prizes, encouraging students to engage actively in the awareness programme.
The event concluded with a message of pride in the Tricolour, unity in diversity and collective responsibility towards building a healthier and Nasha Mukt Bharat, with students encouraged to carry the campaign’s messages from their school to their homes and communities.
