SHILLONG, AUG 21: Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Thomas A Sangma met Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram at his office on Friday and submitted the proposal along with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the second phase of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

During the meeting, the Speaker also raised the issue of the pending central share of scholarships for tribal students of Meghalaya and requested the Union Minister to facilitate early release of the pending amount.

Sangma further requested that the pending scholarship amount be released in a single instalment rather than in several instalments, stating that it would help avoid uncertainty and dissatisfaction among students awaiting assistance.

He emphasised the importance of timely disbursement of scholarship funds to ensure that tribal students in Meghalaya do not face unnecessary difficulties in pursuing their education.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss matters concerning the development of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and the educational welfare of tribal students in the state.
