Shillong,August 22 : FMA Outreach for Underprivileged Women and Children, Lumshyiap, organised an awareness run under the theme “Run for Life, Say No to Drugs” to highlight the dangers of drug abuse and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle among children and young people.
The event featured races for boys and girls in the Under-14 and Under-18 categories. The initiative sought to educate participants about the harmful effects of substance abuse while encouraging them to make healthy and responsible choices.
Marathon runner Wandashisha Dewkhaid attended the programme as the chief guest. Others present included Sr Bashisha Massar, Principal of Auxilium Higher Secondary School, Nongthymmai; athletic coach Sr Rose Mary Lyngdoh; FMA Outreach Director Sr Garnet Sutnga; programme organiser Sr Janicia Nongrum; and Sisters from the Bellefonte Community.
The programme was financially supported by the Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Khasi Hills, as part of efforts to combat substance abuse and protect children and young people from drug-related harm.
Prizes were awarded to winners in the boys’ and girls’ categories, while certificates were presented to all participants.
The event reinforced the message that every step towards a healthy lifestyle is a step towards a brighter, safer and drug-free future.
