Shillong, August 26: The construction and physical progress of the Rongjeng–Mangsang–Adokgre road under the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) came up for discussion during Question Hour on the third day of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly’s Autumn Session on Wednesday.

The issue was raised through Starred Question No. 54 by Jim M. Sangma, who sought an update from the Government on the progress of the ongoing road project.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who also holds the Public Works Department (Roads) portfolio, responded to the question and placed the Government’s position before the House.

Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Dr Mukul M. Sangma subsequently raised supplementary questions, seeking further clarification on the implementation and current status of the project.

During the exchange, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma intervened and assisted the PWD Minister in responding to the issues raised by the Opposition leader.

Dr Mukul, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the Government’s replies, maintaining that they did not adequately address the concerns raised regarding the project.

He pressed the Government to provide clearer and more specific information on the actual construction and physical progress of the road.

The discussion brought renewed attention to the implementation of the NLCPR-funded project and the need for effective monitoring, transparency and timely execution of the strategically important road connecting Rongjeng, Mangsang and Adokgre.
