Shillong, Aug 27: The Meghalaya team for the Junior Boys National Football Championship 2026-27 (Tier 1) for the Dr BC Roy Trophy left Shillong for Bengaluru on Thursday to begin its national campaign.
Meghalaya have been drawn in Group C alongside Tamil Nadu, Mizoram and Maharashtra. The group winners will advance to the semifinals.
Meghalaya will open their campaign against Tamil Nadu on September 1 at 11am, followed by matches against Maharashtra on September 3 at 11am and Mizoram on September 5 at 8:30am.
The 20-member squad will be coached by experienced head coach Playerson Jitem Syiemlieh, assisted by Snenglang Wankhar. Amit Rai is the team manager, while Levon Lyngdoh will serve as physiotherapist.
A small send-off ceremony was held at the MFA Ground in Shillong on Thursday, attended by Meghalaya Football Association (MFA) president Hamletson Dohling, vice-president Cliff Nongrum and Youth Development Cell chairman Freddy Kharpran, along with family members who gathered to wish the players success.
Encouraging the young players, Dohling stressed the importance of maintaining discipline both on and off the field. He described the championship as a golden opportunity for the players to showcase their talent at the national level and take another step forward in their footballing careers.
