SHILLONG, AUG 28: The proposed Rs 3 crore function to receive the President’s Police Colour Award is a historic celebration, Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong said on Friday.

Replying to VPP MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang, who sought details of the spending for a one-day event, Tynsong said he does not have the break-up ready but defended the event.

He said Meghalaya is the 4th state in the Northeast and only the 18th in the country to get the award since 1952.

“In 50-plus years, this is the first time. It is the highest award and proves Meghalaya Police is among the best,” he said, adding the function is likely in late Sept-Oct and the President, PM or Home Minister is expected to attend.
