SHILLONG, AUG 28: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday said no information has been received so far about anyone from Meghalaya being stranded in the floods in Nepal, even as the state remains on alert.

Extending condolences, Tynsong said, “The unfortunate incident that happened a few days back in Nepal is very unfortunate. Our condolences go to the whole of Nepal.”

He said the state is prepared to deal with any such exigency.

“We are fully prepared in case any such incident happens, be it in Meghalaya or in any other state,” he said.

On whether any residents from the state are in Nepal, he said he has asked the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to verify.

“Till this moment, we have no information,” he said.

Commenting on the flooding at Jorabat, the Deputy Chief Minister said the responsibility lies with the National Highways Authority of India.

The road stretch is maintained and constructed by NHAI, not the state PWD, he clarified.

He said he had taken up the matter with NHAI officials and asked them to conduct a detailed survey again to check the road level and take corrective measures, noting that even light rain leads to waterlogging and traffic chokes at Jorabat.
